TRAUMA IS NOT A DISEASE:

It’s an adaptive response to something that happened.

Most treatments for trauma focus on thoughts and beliefs about the event itself rather than on the impact it has on the whole self and body. This approach can lead to feelings of shame, failure and frustration.

Trauma often causes confusing and overwhelming reactions in the body that are typically muted by the survivor.

A body-based approach to trauma focuses on where it resides: in the body; in the present.

The purpose of this book is to share what it looks like to create conditions for processing and holding experiences of trauma without talking about them.  We explore how to hold a space where survivors can show up exactly as they are and begin building a new relationship with their body without needing language.

Trauma can disrupt our capacity to feel at home in our bodies. We’re trying to create spaces that invite survivors to turn inward toward their bodies.
